A Holly, Jolly Holiday for Kids at The Seabird

By Suzanne Davis

Just a one-block stroll from Oceanside’s iconic beaches, The Seabird Resort is the type of place a certain jolly gentleman named Mr. Claus would want to spend his holiday. It’s home to an expansive pool deck complete with a cocktail bar, buzzing restaurants (you can even learn how pasta is made from the pros at The Pass), and spa with all manner of soothing post-sleigh-ride treatments, including Himilayan salt stone massages. This time of year, The Seabird also pulls out all the seasonal stops to make kids’ stays even more memorable.

“We’ve curated a selection of holiday activities for our guests and are excited to bring back Jingle on the Beach celebrations — including special stay packages, meals, events, and more — to The Seabird,” says Erick Ramos, the resort’s recreation director. “Holiday traditions create the fondest of memories, and we want our Little Seabirds to experience the joy of the holidays through programming that is sure to make the best memories in Oceanside. We have Holiday Workshops where they will get to decorate cookies, build their own stuffed animals, make reindeer food, decorate ornaments, and decorate their own plate for Santa’s cookies!”

In short: The Seabird is going full-throttle on the happiest season of all for guests of all ages. This should come as no surprise, given that the resort has a bounty of activities planned year-round for kiddos through their Little Seabirds program, including tie-dye t-shirt making and beachy exploits like sand-castle building and bubble parties.

Here are just a few of the kid-friendly activities put on by the Little Seabirds team this winter.

Holiday Movie Nights

When movie magic meets Christmas magic, everyone wins — especially when you can enjoy a flick together as a family.

“No holiday season is complete without classic holiday films,” Ramos says. “We’re so lucky to have year-round, near-perfect weather and take advantage of it by showing a rotation of “Elf,” “The Polar Express,” “Home Alone,” and “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” poolside this year.”

Even better than kicking back with movies that have stood the test of time? Enjoying them with treats. “Complimentary popcorn, hot cider and hot chocolate are provided,” Ramos notes. “Guests also have the option to upgrade their experience with a private fire pit for cozy poolside s’mores roasting while watching the movie!”

Holiday movies by the pool are complimentary for hotel guests. Non-guests are invited to join in the fun as well with $15 tickets that include popcorn, cider, hot chocolate, and access to the pool for the day.

We think even the Grinch would approve.

Holiday Workshops

Getting creative and letting your imagination run wild is a thrill all year round, but particularly enjoyable during the holiday season. The Seabird has made having a family crafternoon easy (no clean-up necessary!) with a menu of fun holiday activities everyone will enjoy. Want to build a snuggly snowman stuffed animal? This is the spot. ($25 per animal). Feel like decorating your own ornaments for your tree? They’ve got everything you’ll need on hand ($10 per ornament). On December 11, families can plan to decorate gingerbread houses ($25 for hotel guests).

Kids can even adorn holiday sugar cookies ($10) and a plate to put them on ($5), so Santa and his team can indulge in a little sweet treat while they make the rounds on Christmas Eve. In the true spirit of Christmas, writing letters to Santa and reindeer food is complimentary.

Elf Tuck-In

Who needs an elf on a shelf? The holidays are much more fun when pointy-toed elves show up for magical in-person interactions with you instead. “We are most excited for our debut of Elf Tuck-Ins this year,” Ramos says. “We’re sprinkling some holiday magic into our Little Seabirds’ stays by having two of Santa’s elves visit their guest room to read a bedtime story and drop off a gift directly from Santa!” Elf Tuck-Ins are $50 for the first child and $40 for each additional child. Kids Eat Free

With so many presents to buy for the people on our lists, the holidays can do some serious damage to a household budget. We’ve got good news — from November 18 through New Year’s Eve this year, Little Seabirds (kids 12 and under) will be treated to a free breakfast or brunch at Piper during their stay thanks to the Kids Eat Free program, plus a stuffed animal welcome amenity at check-in. Dedicated to showcasing Southern California’s seasonal bounty, Piper uses regional ingredients as much as possible, meaning you can tuck into an acai and bee pollen superfood bowl while your tot enjoys a malted pancake with maple syrup or organic egg scramble with potatoes.
